The Protected Designation of Origin for Etna wines was established in 1968, the first DOC in Sicily and one of the firsts in Italy (Denominazione di Origine Controllata, i.e. PDO, Protected Designation of Origin, according to the Italian wine classification system).
In January 1994 the Consortium for the protection of Etna wines was created with the aim of enhancing and protecting Etna wines and its territory. By ministerial Decree of the 18th of February 2018, the Consortium obtained the so-called “erga omnes” recognition and took on the task of carrying out the function of protection, promotion and enhancement of the whole appellation, not only for those producers who are associated with the Consortium.
We protect the Etna PDO brand and are committed to promoting it in Italy and around the world, overseeing compliance with the rules laid down in the production regulations.
We participate in the debate on issues of interest to the wine industry, promote relations between producers and the market and work to spread the culture of wine and the territory.
